Why did we launch Sunday Care Therapy during a pandemic?
We started this business in the middle of a pandemic.
Was this a crazy idea, or was this genius?
We’re still figuring this out!
This is us (below) - Derek and Jess - the founders of Sunday Care Therapy. We left our previous jobs in February 2020 with the expectation of building the business quickly and having a very busy 2020 of networking with other startups, in person meetings and getting to know our neighbourhood in Hackney to spread the word to get Sunday Care Therapy flying!
But, COVID-19 had other plans.
We started building Sunday Care Therapy during the first national lockdown - just when things were getting all sourdough starters, banana bread and cutting your own hair (badly) at home.
Back when everyone thought we’d be back to normal by the summer!
Building greatness takes time, so we’re proud to have secured CQC registration in December 2020, to get our changing-care-at-home rocket ship off the ground!
Here are some of our reasons for starting our business in a pandemic:
Gladys, our Co-Founder Derek’s 91 year old Aunt meant Derek saw care from the point of view of a caregiver and a client
Long COVID will need more rehab support at home
Dementia is something we’ve had so much experience with, and we think there is so much early intervention we can do to make positive change
Care Homes aren’t *currently* feeling like a safe option for many people
Occupational Therapy is awesome, the world needs to know more
So tell us, do you think we were crazy to start a business or genius?
Well we weren’t alone in this - a record number of businesses started in 2020, with an extra 84,758 businesses set up in 2020 compared with 2019 {via smallbusiness.co.uk)
We’ll be sharing more of our stories of building a business from scratch - so buckle up and join us on this ride!
